About ThetaHealing
The brain has a pulse, a beat — just like your heart. These brain pulses, or brainwaves, happen at a variety of speeds. There different brainwave states are alpha, beta, theta, and delta – which we experience on a daily basis. By attaching electrodes to the scalp and using a device known as an electroencephalogram (EEG), we can view and analyze the traces of electrical activity in the brain that represent these “brainwaves”.
Your brainwaves are normally in gamma when you’re engaged in certain motor functions, beta when you’re fully conscious, alpha when you’re relaxed, theta when you’re drowsy or lightly sleeping, or delta when you’re in deep sleep. However, if you’ve ever “zoned out” while driving or otherwise went on mental “auto pilot”, that means you entered theta while stilling being awake.
Theta Waves have been associated with states of enhanced creativity (where ideas seem to come effortlessly), “Super Learning,” deeper relaxation, day-dreaming, sleep-dream activity, spiritual connection, strong intuitions and more.
A trained and accredited ThetaHealing practitioner is able to access the powerful Theta state whilst still remaining conscious. This enables the practitioner to fully connect with the Divine and the client’s energetic body, subconscious mind, inner child archetype, Higher Self, angels, and so on. (ThetaHealing recognises that people of different religions speak differently about God. Some people speak of the Universal Mind, Source Energy, the Light, the Almighty, Origin, the Great Creator of All That Is, and so on). By connecting with the Divine, the practitioner is able to give an intuitive reading or initiate and witness the healing of illness.
The ThetaHealing practitioner is also able to uncover limiting belief systems stored on four different levels of the client’s subconscious mind – core, genetic, history, or soul level, or even in one of the body’s systems making it unwell. Using intuitive “digging” and a form of muscle testing, the skilled practitioner is able to establish what limiting beliefs are held and on which levels.
Beliefs are important because behavior is important and your behavior depends on your beliefs. Everything you do can be traced back to beliefs you hold about the world — everything from brushing your teeth to your career. Beliefs also impact on your perceptions, thoughts, and consequent stress levels, affecting your immunity, pain levels, and physical and emotional health or wellness. Subconscious beliefs are stored in the body, and toxic ones lead to energetic imbalance, then illness, then dis-ease.
The “magic” happens when the Theta practitioner uses the powerful theta state and the command process to release/remove or cancel these key beliefs that no longer serve the client’s highest and best. With the help of the Divine, these negative beliefs are instantly replaced with beliefs and feelings that expand the possibilities in his/her life and enable him/her to more easily experience peace, happiness, health, and abundance. The practitioner facilitates and then witnesses the healing – and is able to use muscle testing to validate this. All of this can happen in just one session!
This helps the client escape victim consciousness and illnesses caused by belief systems (including ancestral beliefs in the DNA) that prevent him or her from being healthy or embracing his or her true magnificence as a conscious creator of life.
The certified practitioner is also able to balance the client’s chakras, instil new emotions (using energy work only), and remove other blocks to Real Peace, Real Harmony, Real Health, Real Abundance, Real Success, and Real Freedom and so on: these include repressed negative emotions, psychic hooks, free-floating memories, soul fragments and wayward spirits.
By learning to use a conscious, waking Theta brain wave, our practitioners can also access and influence the powerful subconscious part of their own minds and do the healing processes on themselves. “While in the Theta state, the mind is capable of deep and profound learning, healing, and growth – it is the brain wave where our minds can connect to the Divine and manifest changes in the material world” (Brent Philips).
ThetaHealing is not just about the physical aspect of a person where manifested illnesses are most apparent. It addresses all parts of the individual. By doing ThetaHealing a person goes on a journey of discovery into the “inner world” with health, happiness, wholeness and change being the ultimate goal for the client’s highest good.
ThetaHealing does not require any tapping techniques or that the client lie down, meditate, attach to a machine, or go into hypnosis.
The practitioner training is suitable for people of different religions, as well as people who are spiritual but who do not identify with a religion.
People who understand the Law of Attraction will find that the modality resonates with them: through ThetaHealing practices we change the vibrations that we send out into the universe, thus changing the way we manifest.

Vianna Stibal (pictured above), who developed the system in the 1990s and whose books are published by Hayhouse, describes ThetaHealing as a way to tap into clear answers. She says, “It enables the participant to find limiting beliefs and change them instantly. No long goals, no reading affirmations, no voodoo-who-do, just a simple realization and decision to change them and then witnessing the Creator instantly change them”.
ThetaHealing enables people to be self-reliant, self-responsible and self-empowered by working holistically with the mind, body, soul and spirit.
More on the importance of our key beliefs / assumptions
A key feature of this modality is that once “connected”, the trained ThetaHealing practitioner is able to “tune in” and shift instantly those subconscious belief systems or assumptions on all levels that create/maintain stress, disease, unhappiness or negative attitudes. This energetic shift is extremely important because it is the subconscious mind that controls your everyday experiences: from the type of actions you take each day, the people and experiences you attract into your life, the way you perceive the world, and the way you experience your emotions.
“Your subconscious mind is like an auto-pilot feature on an airplane. It has been pre-programmed to follow a specific route and you cannot deviate from that route unless you change the directions programmed into it first” (author unknown).
During your childhood you simply accepted into your subconscious mind most of the information that you received. Your mind probably did not reject much information because it did not have any pre-existing beliefs to contradict the new information. Beliefs and assumptions were then created because of “downloads” of information from your environment and because of your experiences with other people. Sometimes you internalised conflicting beliefs.
So every time someone called you stupid, annoying, fat, lazy, or worse, your subconscious mind may have just stored the information for later reference. As you went about your activities, you also internalised messages about your race, sex, religion, sexuality, gender, economic status, weight, looks, and so on. Oftentimes these messages were learned without being explicitly taught to you. In time, you also developed belief systems to help you to survive the problems in your life.
For example, a child with an abusive parent may learn that loved ones cannot be trusted. She may grow up being afraid of her father. This fear may be projected on to other men, making it hard for her to love and trust men. Her subconscious belief system – developed over time – will try to protect her from further trauma by keeping men at a distance. It may draw conclusions like: “Men cannot be trusted”, “I deserve to be abused”, or “If I love I will be hurt”. These beliefs (not necessarily known to her on a conscious level) will affect the way she perceives the world – and who she gets close to. Although she may think she can simply discard the hurtful experiences and messages, it is not that easy. Our beliefs create our reality. So the fear (with associated subconscious beliefs about men, love and herself) will send out “vibes” which attract more of the same. Unless the beliefs contributing to distrust of men are removed, the Universe will keep proving her right – and she will keep getting hurt by men who cannot be trusted. These may result in terribly traumatic experiences that also require healing.
This may result in her feeling depressed or becoming ill; it is hard to stay healthy when one has toxic beliefs and emotions affecting one’s interaction with the world.
To change her life her subconscious core beliefs need to change. She will also need to learn how to trust, love and be loved without fear.
“Deeply embedded belief systems are energetic. They were created from emotional charges. Unless they are released and replaced energetically, they stay wedged in place. This is where Theta Healing comes in. By creating changes of consciousness … the energy moves and is reprogrammed…” (Melanie Evans).
A certified ThetaHealing practitioner has a good grasp of how negative belief sytems and emotions affect your energy field and prevent you from healing, and are trained to identify and cancel subconscious beliefs that maintain illnesses. Remember: what you say you believe and what you really believe are not necessarily the same! Every disease or disorder or dysfunction in the body has a corresponding belief system (programme) attached to it that keeps it running. When a client presents with insomnia, for example, the practitioner will test if the client has these subconscious beliefs: “When I sleep I am vulnerable”, “I must keep my guard up”, “If I sleep I will be hurt”, “I must constantly protect myself”, “I may die if I sleep too deeply”, “I need to worry”, and so on. These deep-seated beliefs (which affect the energy of the body) maintain the insomnia. By cancelling these beliefs and replacing with beliefs that support good sleep and feelings of security, the practitioner shifts – and heals – the root cause of the illness. The illness can no longer exist or recreate itself.
Another example: If a person is overweight because of a thyroid problem affecting her metabolism, a ThetaHealing practitioner would want to find out why there is a thyroid problem. What beliefs caused the thyroid to stop functioning properly? What emotions and beliefs are underneath it all? This would require digging so that the real cause of the client’s issues can be changed for her highest and best.
A trained Theta Healing practitioner knows how to bypass the filter between the conscious and the subconscious mind, and is able to witness new empowering programmes and feelings being “downloaded” from the Creator (divine energy) into the client instantly. Once these limiting subconscious beliefs – which may also have come from the client’s ancestors via her genes – have been changed, and her DNA and body have been taught the new beliefs and feelings, she will heal accordingly. The new positive beliefs will create positive thoughts that create peptides which send wonderful feelings through the body. Not only that, but the woman will also send out different “vibes” that will affect her external world too. Through ThetaHealing, a person is able to align herself with who she really is at the level of soul, and to manifest joy and abundance by working with the law of attraction more consciously.
ThetaHealing does not replace medical or psychological advice or treatment, and practitioners will not diagnose illness, “cure” you, or treat you. “Healing is never to be measured by how much, how big, how obvious, how dramatic. Every healing is extraordinary” (Caroline Myss).
Of course there is much more that ThetaHealing can do… Please see the training courses on offer for more information on what practitioners learn before qualifying with Eric Richardson and the ThetaHealing Institute of Knowledge in the USA.
